Day 60: Exmouth

It is a cold and windy morning, with a front coming through last night dropping the temperature, but no rain, just gusty winds.

Also with the WA school holidays now over, the park has emptied out quite a bit.

Any thought of snorkelling or going in the water is now off the plan, so a lazy day in town is more likely. We have to stock up the larder (and cellar), as we are heading to Coral Bay tomorrow where the amount of choice is likely to be less, so we head off to the shopping centre mid morning.

Also on our list is to stock up on fresh Exmouth green prawns from the Fresh Fish Shack, not far from the caravan park. We picked up 1 Kg of very fresh large green prawns that will feed us over a few future meals.

After returning to the van to divide them up into freezer packs our thoughts quickly turned to lunch, and we decided to go to the Whalebone Brewery which we visited briefly a few days ago. It was already busy at around 1pm, and the crowd continued to build. The only food they were serving was pizza, but it looked good and there was a large choice available.

The pizzas were very good, as was the beer and ginger beer

They had a huge range of craft beers and other concoctions. The IPA I had was excellent but a bit on the strong side at 7% alcohol.

There was a good crowd there enjoying their food and beverage and buying a bit of merchandise

We surprised ourselves getting through the pizza, but it was quite thin crust and not overdone with filling, so not a heavy meal.

After lunch we went back to the park and needed a walk to settle the food down.  According to Google maps, there is a track from the exit of the caravan park, through the local golf course to Town Beach, so we thought we would give that a go. The first part of the track was actually a rarely used road, chained off that provides access to the golf course, I guess, for maintenance.

The course could use a bit of maintenance. There was one keen lady out playing and practicing mastering the skill of putting on sand greens before moving on to the next hole.

There is some grass

A tough par 3

Reaching the edge of the course, we looked for the track that led to the beach, with no success at all. We did find a track where there was a warning not to proceed because of asbestos contamination, but I am not sure it was the track to the beach.

So all we could do was look over the dunes, see some water and imagine what town beach looked like.

The wind did die down late in the afternoon and the temperature got to the mid 20's. We hung around the caravan park and started getting ready for tomorrows departure.
