Day 12: Our last day in Longreach

A lazier day is planned for today. After breakfast we went for a walk along the botanical trail up to the Stockman's Hall of Fame where they have a heritage garden in the grounds. Just across the highway is the Qantas Founders Museum, which have decided not to bother to visit based on feedback we received last night from a couple who had been there.

The caravan park is pretty empty this morning

Gidgee tree, known as "Stinking Wattle". This was the wood used to fuel the boiler at the Blackall Wool Scour

The botanical walking trail ends at the Stockman's Hall of Fame heritage garden.

They had a couple of classic statues like this one of a dog stalking some sheep

and some bush poetry

It was close to lunch time when we got back to the van, only to be greeted with a message from the CBA that there appears to have been some unauthorised transactions on my Mastercard. Fortunately they picked it up quickly, but the next hour or so was spent cancelling the card, getting new electronic one issued and trying to find someone at the CBA that you could physically talk to. The latter proved impossible if you didn't have a phone banking PIN, which I don't. Messaging through their app seemed the only way of asking questions, and that is still continuing.

After all of this drama, and lunch, we decided to go for a drive to check out the Longreach Golf Course. It was an eyeopener.

Impressive Clubhouse

The have a practice driving range.

Sand greens treated with sump oil seem standard

And wide open fairways, although grass could be a problem

Despite the attraction of playing such a challenging course, we have shopping to do, so will have to leave it for another time. The 19th hole looks to be the Signature Hole of the course.

IGA got some more support from us on the way home, and we filled up with diesel at a bargain @2.655 / litre. Tomorrow we venture further into the outback to Kynuna, with a stop in Winton along the way.
